Home insurance up 47% nationwide. Florida missed the top 10.

Home insurance rates rose roughly 47% nationwide between 2020 and 2025, according to LendingTree's 2026 State of Home Insurance report. The states at the top of the list are not the ones you would guess. Colorado led at about 101%, followed by Iowa near 96% and Minnesota around 88%. Hail, wildfire, and severe convective storms drove much of it. Florida and California, the two states usually treated as shorthand for an insurance crisis, did not make the top ten.

Florida staying out of the top ten does not mean Florida is cheap. It means the steepest recent increases happened elsewhere while Florida pricing flattened out after several years of legal reform and new carriers entering the market. That gap is the opportunity. If your premium has been climbing on autopilot since 2022, the number your current carrier renews you at may no longer reflect what the market will actually charge you. Rate filings move, but your renewal notice does not shop itself. The only way to find out is to put your home in front of several carriers at once.

An independent agent can re-shop your homeowners policy across multiple carriers and tell you whether the softer Florida market has reached your premium yet.
