Nearly a third of Gen Z drivers skip car insurance

A survey from TransUnion, reported by the Daily Caller, found that roughly 30% of Gen Z drivers said they go without auto insurance. Rising costs and changing driving habits are the reasons given. Younger drivers pay the highest premiums in almost every market, so they are the group most likely to drop coverage when a budget gets tight.

Florida already ranks among the worst states for uninsured drivers, and the state's minimum requirement is thin to begin with: $10,000 of personal injury protection and $10,000 of property damage liability, with no bodily injury liability required at all. If an uninsured driver hits you, your own policy is what pays. Uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage is the piece that covers your injuries when the other driver has nothing, and in Florida you have to reject it in writing, which means plenty of drivers waived it years ago without remembering. Pull out your declarations page and look for a UM or UIM limit. If it says rejected, that is your exposure.

An independent agent can check whether you carry UM coverage, price it at a higher limit, and re-shop the rest of your auto policy at the same time.
