Hybrids top the list of cheapest 2026 vehicles to insure
Mercury Insurance published its ranking of the 10 most affordable new electric and hybrid vehicles to insure for 2026. Hybrids took most of the list, which the company attributes to buyers having more electrified choices than ever.
Insurance cost belongs in the shopping decision, not the week after it. Electric and hybrid vehicles tend to price differently from gas cars because a carrier looks at what a repair costs, not what the car costs to run. Battery packs, the sensors packed into bumpers, and specialty parts can turn a moderate collision into a total loss, and certified repair networks are thinner in some areas than others. That is a big part of why two vehicles with similar sticker prices can quote hundreds apart. Get a real quote on the exact trim or VIN you are considering, because the premium follows you for as long as you own it.
An independent agent can quote the two or three vehicles you are weighing side by side and re-shop your current auto policy at the same time.
